"Yeah, I'll tell just as much truth as the people that wrote that fucking bible."

I'm normally pretty bummed about Valentines Day rolling around, but I will be god-damned if yesterday wasn't the best day I've had in a long, long time. I thought that the day was pretty much peaked after sitting on the roof and dinner, but I was HAPPILY mistaken. I should go to bars that have covers more often if nights are going to turn out like that.

So, I just got to Lexington, Kentucky. We got here, checked into the hotel, rode the elevator up to the second floor, put our bags down, and decided to go over to the local Casa de Waffle to partake in some Belgian goodness. We left our room, and went back to the elevator that we were on 5 minutes earlier. We pressed the "down" button, obviously, to go down to the lobby. Almost immediately after pressing the button,

the doors of the elevator shook, bolts and screws flew off the wall, dust came bellowing out of the elevator doors, and then quiet.
The elevator had fallen straight to the ground.

I don't really want to say anything too in depth about cave9 moving, because I really just don't know how to say it. Pretty much everything that I thought about last night could be summed up by what Allan said. If I could go back to the 16 year old version of myself, sitting against the wall outside of cave9, I'd just want to tell him that everything was going to be ok.

Everyone's making these 2008 recap posts. It's the same old shit. "2008 sucked, but '09! It's going to be different"

No it isn't.

2007 sucked, 2008 sucked, and 2009 is going to suck. All you can try to do is make the good times good enough.

Ramblings [17 Nov 2008|08:37am]
I realized that I haven't made a livejournal entry in a good while. I don't really have anything groundbreaking to talk about. No big news, or exciting events really--but I find that note worthy. My life is consistent--even, and I don't think I have a problem with that. Track is unbelievably difficult, and this season is probably one of the most physically demanding things that I've ever gone through, but it's going to pay off. (For a decathlete pun--It all pays off in the long run!) We ran a workout the other day that last year at this time I wouldn't have been able to finish, and this year all 4 of us crushed it. 500, 400, 300 in 1:17, 62, and 42 respectively with 4 minutes of rest in between each. That is a fast fucking workout, and all 4 of us absolutely destroyed it. And every day, being the first 4 on the track, watching everyone come out and start and finish while we're still working, and being the last people on the track is such a gratifying feeling. The sun has almost completely set, and the sweat sitting on my skin is starting to chill, and the only thing out there is 4 pairs of feet, a beeping watch, and a coach yelling out splits. I never feel more alive then at that dusky time at the end of the day, completely broken down, cramping up, and fighting through the final 10 meters when everyone else is already done. God damnit, I love it.

I've also been an Alabama super fan lately. Yesterday I went to the volleyball game, and the basketball game, and I'll be going to the basketball game on Wednesday night. What's up with that? Pretty fun though.

Had a party at my house on Friday night. It's funny to watch all the different teams roll up together. We had, soccer, gymnastics, swimming and diving, track, golf, and tennis here at on point in the night. The party went well. I walked out into my living room the next morning to see a guy sitting in our recliner, a guy in our bean bag chair, and a guy fucking a girl on our couch with the two other guys watching and talking about it. I turned around and walked right back in my room.

What about it?

The warmth we brought was enough
To make us feel at home
And we shared our fire
Crossed the lines and threw rocks sky high
And it was alright

I just knocked over 2 guitars, a chair, tripped over a cable, and knocked a lamp over just to make sure I got "Vincent" by Don McLean stopped before it came up on shuffle.

I just sort of feel like rambling.

There is just something that draws me to this time of year. It's a time of togetherness. After the sun has finally moved out of direct view, and the gold is replaced by a cold blue of the setting sky and streetlamps, the windows of the houses along the street take the place of the sun, showing little pockets of that warm, rich, golden light. Driving down the street the burned out leaves dance across the blacktop, and the children play in their front yards. Scarves start to come out and protect those spots where our jackets can't get their hands around. But that chill doesn't matter, because we have each other. We don't have each other in a you and I sense, because those pronouns aren't singular. We have each other. Not you and I, but all of us together. Togetherness gets us through the cold. We stick together and light our lights in the windows to let each other know that after that sun goes down we will keep the golden glow going for anyone who needs something to keep them warm inside. Our lives have their ups and downs, just like the thermometer. We just fight to keep the downs from coinciding. We'll warm up until the bottom of the thermometer is nothing but a passing glance. We can stand on the porch and hold our arms, laughing and blowing breath that smokes out. We'll laugh at the cold nights, and fight back with that hot breath.

Jesus it's been forever since I've updated this thing. Back in school, back in track, back on schedule. It feels really good to be back in a routine with some consistency. Up everyday at 6:30, lift, breakfast a Burke with the team, class till 3:00, practice till 5, dinner with the team, some form of hanging out, and then asleep by 10. If that's the routine that I fall into, then you know, I'm not really too broken up about it. We all need some form of something solid in life, and sometimes a consistent schedule can be just that.

This weekend was interesting on so many levels. I would go so far as to say that I finally came to enjoy my time in Tuscaloosa this weekend. I'm not going to say that I love this town, or that it really is the place for me, because after my trip to Auburn with Mary Kathleen I realized that I really should have gone to Auburn from the get-go. BUT nevertheless, this weekend was one for the books. I left my house around 6 o'clock on Friday afternoon and didn't return until about an hour ago.

It was basically a high school reunion this weekend. A bunch of people from Auburn made the trip up to Tuscaloosa to hang out, and it was like a class reunion at the house. It was awesome to get to see Jason McMillan again. We reassembled the old track team in it's entirety: Me, Jason, Davis, Mitchell, and Fayet. I really had forgotten what a wonderful group dynamic we had, along with about 100 other things we'd forgotten that Jason remembered to a T. (One more minute in the Bunson Burner) Two nights of side-cramping laughing, sitting on porches, and just straight hanging out. I also ran naked around in the yard, but that is an entirely different story, and I don't even have the excuse that I was drunk.

We're taking a break for about 5 days to recover, and then are picking it back up when we head down to Auburn this weekend. Do it big.

If you missed the show last night, go ahead and kick yourself. After Cough finished playing, I felt like I had a dump truck full of concrete parked on my chest. It's shows like that which remind me of how much I love slow groove.

And about 30 seconds into Cough's set, I was regretting not having long hair SO, SO much. I miss my long hair every day.

World's largest swimming pool. [28 Jun 2008|12:09pm]

"The San Alfonso del Mar is a 1,013 meter, 19-acre pool on the central coast of Chile. It holds 66 million gallons of filtered sea-water and even has a 115-foot deep end....

it took approximately five years and $2 billion to complete. Maintenance costs are estimated to be about $4 million a year"

I just got in from seeing Wall-E, and it was by far the cutest thing I have ever seen in my life. There were literally parts in the movie that were so cute, I was compelled to just randomly grab something, and hug it just to vent some affection, so as not to explode.

And the Pixar short at the beginning made me laugh so hard I could almost not breathe. Erin, you'll love it. It's about a bunny.
